One inexplicably popular app: Fruit Ninja

Yes, iPhones can make people rich. No,  we are not talking about those at Apple, who brought in their pile of cash selling iPhones. We are talking about those developers and companies who earned their fortunes off of iPhone apps.

So, let's take a look at an iPhone app that made a fortune for its author. We will not repeat all the well-known stuff about well-known apps such as Angry Birds and why they so are so popular. Instead, we consider the 3rd best-selling app from Apple's App Store, a game called Fruit Ninja. Funny name, for an app, right? Nevertheless, this game with a $0.99 price tag was sold over 10 million times.

A simple calculation reveals that Apple customers together have paid  around 10 million bucks for this game. So, what's so cool about Fruit Ninja? Well, the game itself is pretty simple: it allows you to slash the fruits that fly onto the screen using a sword. Blade movement is controlled by finger swipes. This turns out to be amazingly addictive ; people can spend hours upon hours cutting various fruits in pieces.

With Google and Apple heightening battle for mobile market it is no wonder that the rivals are trying to get some footholds on each other`s ground.  When Gmail app was first revealed to the public on November 2nd 2011 it was pulled out of the App Store in a matter of hours. The user outcry was so overwhelming that Google confessed in its official blog “Sorry, we messed up”.

And there were reasons for that. The first version of Gmail app would break iPhone`s notification system sending rays of love from iPhone users to Google. In fact this was not the only problem with the app but that was revealed only after Google uploaded a fixed and updated version of Gmail app on November 16th.
