1. Set up a passcode that both you and your child can remember

The iPhone can provide ample educational and social benefits for your child, but it can also be a source of danger if they use the device to do the wrong things or talk to the wrong people. Many parents are also concerned about the type of content their children will be exposed to while browsing the web on their iPhones. Here are some things every parent should do before giving their child an iPhone to keep them out of harm's way and away from content that is not suitable for children.

Precaution 1. Set up a passcode that both you and your child can remember.

Once on the Home screen, tap Settings-->General-->Passcode Lock to set up a 4-digit passcode on the iPhone. Your child will now have to input the passcode every time he or she wants to use the iPhone, so make sure it is one that both you and your child can easily remember. This passcode will protect your child's personal information stored in the device in the event that a dangerous thief gets his hands on it.
