visible non-human Instructions for setting up the rotation feature on the iPad
There is more than one way to go about choosing and locking the screen orientation on your iPad. Below, I have briefly discussed the different options you have for managing your device's screen orientation.
Use the side switch
You can use the side switch on your iPad to manage the screen rotation. You have the option of setting the side switch to either rotation lock or mute mode. Personally, I prefer to set it to rotation lock mode since, if I need it to be quiet, all I need to do is mute the sound with the volume rocker switch, located just underneath the side switch. It only takes a couple of seconds to reduce my iPad's volume to zero if I am in a situation where I need the device to be silent, so I might as well make use of the rotation lock feature.
To set the side switch to rotation lock, simply open the Settings menu, and tap General. Once there, go to where it says "Use Side Switch to."

If you choose to set the side switch to mute, you can still manage your screen orientation with the below steps:
1. Tap the Home button twice to open the fast app switcher.
2. Swipe the switcher from left to right to open the control panel.
3. Turn you iPad onto either portrait or landscape view depending on which orientation you wish to lock it on.
4. Tap the icon located on the far left of the screen to activate rotation lock. Tapping it again will deactivate rotation lock.
It is useful to note that there are other handy features included in this control panel as well. They include volume control, playback buttons for audio and video, and screen brightness.
There you go! You now know how to manage your iPad's screen orientation.
